Walpole was featured in last week’s Mail on Sunday and our very own Dr Sharon Orton-Gibbs had some great advice to give on the AcceleDent system.

Sarah Hammond of Epsom, Surrey, received the Walpole treatment when she told us that she wanted to straighten her teeth in under a year in preparation of her dream wedding. Our expertise was on hand to help. We were one of 20 UK orthodontists selected a couple of years ago to trial a new system on the orthodontics market called AcceleDent, which ultimately speeds up tooth-straightening on average by up to 30%. With a wedding just round the corner it was an important part to making Sarah’s and her fiancé Chris’ day that extra bit special.

AcceleDent is a wafer thin plate that patients insert into the mouth for 20 minutes a day, as the device emits a vibration it stimulates bone renewal and helps achieve alignment quicker.  After a few sessions the gentle vibration “wasn’t distracting in the slightest” and Sarah could even read a book or watch TV whilst wearing the plate.

AcceleDent is a fantastic technology when it is used in support of specialist orthodontic treatment. Sarah received so many compliments on her wedding day that the cost of the treatment was instantly justified, not forgetting that that her teeth were fixed for life.  Correct orthodontic treatment can do wonders for the facial shape and bring confidence to anyone looking to invest in their smile, like Sarah - over the moon that her “lips looked fuller” because they were now resting properly on her front teeth.
